Home for Sale...includes a dog house!

Items found in Ryan's typical day include a sturdy textbook, ball-point pen, and a blue highlighter; rarely seen are a hammer, saw, or pliers. Names and terms such as Netters, Harrisons, and cardiomegaly are referred to in excess...never Craftsman, DeWalt, or Kolbalt. My point is that my husband decided to build a dog house.

After spending a year debating what would be durable, comfortable, and safe...this seemed to be the only option. Dogloos were not big enough or they were too expensive; other houses belonged to fancy French "dogs" and didn't fit our more rugged choices of loyal companions.

Wisely, Ryan enlisted the help of a close friend to undertake the project with him. As the visionary, I sketched out basic ideas and upon approval of the plan, Ryan and pal went to the appropriate stores to gather the needed supplies.

This was to be no ordinary dog house.

This dog house, built for a combined total weight of 160 pounds of dog, was built to code: studs, insultation, weatherproof drywall, shingled roof, carpeted flooring and removable ventilation for the changing weather. Three average adults could fit in the spacious accomodations (yes, this was tested). And at its completion, it was glorious. And heavy. And also built down the road from our home.

If you built it, they will need to come.

It took a large truck backed up onto my lawn and 6 grown men to deliever the precious item.
Either way, the dog house had arrived and Ryan and I were overjoyed to see what the dogs would do.

Over the next few weeks, this is a detail recording of what they did...

1. chew up the dry wall so as to have white chalk all over fur - check
2. pee on dog house - check
3. remove, rip, and chew up the insulation -check
4. check poop for blood (actually, we had to do this) - check, check, check
5. pee on dog house - check
6. realize this fantastic thing brought into my yard is a new chaise lounge chair after all! thanks mommy and daddy!

We have had the dog house for a year. And with limited sightings, we cannot confirm the dogs actually go into the house. Nice. Upon planning to possibly move this spring, it has come to our attention that our house maybe the only one offering a custom-built home for dogs with purchase.
