July has come and gone quite quickly. Ryan is officially a second year resident...two more years to go for those still trying to count during this nebulous time of doctorship. (I feel that is the question I get the most often..."So...how long does Ryan still have?") For the month of July, he had an elective rotation; this enabled us to leave for a week to celebrate his brother's wedding in North Carolina. We decided to leave Lydia and the dogs with my mom in Augusta...a tough decision but a necessary one given the hectic schedule of being apart of the wedding party. Obviously, we missed her terribly. However, I enjoyed the break from the constant "mommy awareness" brain. There were moments I just sat there swinging on the porch remembering what it was like to not have to worry about light sockets, potential choking hazards, dog hair on the floor, poopy diapers, feeding schedules, etc. It was nice :) I think that is what I needed a break for the most. It wears me out to always be operating on this heightening sense of awareness. "Does Lydia need her sippy?...oh, crap! she just ate a button."
August is Cardiology month and with the new work hour regulations it hasn't been that bad compared to last year. He says being a resident is challenging in that he has to make sure not only his patient care is accurate but also the new interns are doing okay...a lot more to manage and oversee...a lot more draining. It is encouraging though...seeing how far he has come. We do feel our first year went by fast.
Still pressing on....

Fabulous bed head

Ashley- awesome posts!!! Remember that song "I'm pressing on, pressing on..." from Reliant K? It's perfect for dirty diaper moments. I loved your car pictures. What mom has time to clean out her car? You've got an amazing sense of humor.
